When your delegates are ready for some fun after the serious stuff is over, or you’re looking for something special to incorporate into your program, Darwin and surrounds are packed with options.
Fishing Safari
The Top End offers some of the best fishing in the world. Whether hunting the prized barramundi, or fishing on Darwin’s pristine harbour, experienced and knowledgeable crew can take you to some of the best spots.
Litchfield National Park
Just one and a half hours’ drive from Darwin, Litchfield National Park is an easily accessible taste of the Territory’s natural grandeur. It’s a place of weathered sandstone escarpments, monsoon rainforest, crystal-clear waterholes in spring-fed streams and spectacular waterfalls, peppered with intriguing ‘magnetic’ termite mounds.
Tiwi Islands Aboriginal Cultural Tour
The Tiwi Islands are rich in Aboriginal culture and history. Fly from Darwin, visit the community of Nguiu, the museum and the old mission precinct, and enjoy morning tea with the Tiwi ladies. Tour pottery, screen print and craft workshops. Lunch and swim at the Topari Waterfall before visiting a Tiwi burial site to learn about its significance in Aboriginal culture.
Harbour Cruises
Fiery red sunsets and calm waters make cruising Darwin Harbour a must-do experience. Learn a little of Darwin’s history or simply soak up the atmosphere and warm tropical breeze, with a glass of sparkling and nibbles. Or sit down to a gourmet three course dinner.
Territory Wildlife Park
The Park is just 40 minutes drive south of Darwin, comprising 400 hectares of natural bushland including wetlands, monsoon forest and open woodland. Explore the park on shuttle trains or wander along bush trails. Discover the magnificent raptors at the Flight Deck, encounter creatures of the night in the nocturnal house, hand feed a Barramundi or take a journey through a Top End river system at the aquarium.
Jumping Crocodile Cruise
Adelaide River is home to some 16,000 crocodiles. These awesome creatures slide menacingly from the mud banks, swimming almost without a ripple towards the scent of food. In a flash of spray they leap from the water to take the dangled bait, then slip away to enjoy the spoils.
Berry Springs Nature Park
This perfect swimming spot is only 45 minutes from the CBD, near the Territory Wildlife Park. Berry Springs has shaded picnic and barbecue areas, and kids can spot fish and other aquatic life in the clear pools. During World War II, Berry Springs was part of an armed forces rest and recreation camp for the area’s 100,000 personnel.
