The town of Katherine, just three hours south of Darwin, is often described as the place ‘where the outback meets the tropics’.
Katherine is the perfect base for exploring the Gulf region, the southern part of Kakadu National Park and the Victoria River region – places where you can immerse yourself in nature and adventure.
Katherine’s charms are more unexpected than the Territory’s biggest icons, so it’s great for a complete and absorbing change of scene pre- or post- your business event. It’s a refreshing, eye-opening destination, with lots to see and do.
Nitmiluk National Park
Previously known as Katherine Gorge National Park, Nitmiluk National Park is home to 13 spectacular sandstone gorges, including Katherine Gorge itself. Most are best experienced from the water (easily done via boat cruise or rented canoe) or from above in a helicopter.
Victoria River
The beautiful Victoria River, running through deep valleys and gorges, is one of the Northern Territory’s most scenic places to catch barramundi.
Gulf Region
East of Katherine lies the Gulf of Carpentaria, with remote, unspoiled waterways offering some of Australia's most exciting and productive fishing.
Daly River
Located between Darwin and Katherine, the Daly region’s unique ecosystems, hot springs and gorges make it a fantastic spot to camp and bushwalk.
