Why meet in Darwin?

Australia’s tropical harbour city is compelling in its uniqueness, thanks largely to its geographical location. Situated closer to some Asian destinations than to its southern Australian capitals, makes Darwin an ideal location for your next international conference, meeting or event.

Darwin’s prosperous business culture and booming economy are attracting some of Australia’s most prestigious events.  It has rapidly established itself as an unrivalled regional centre for energy, minerals, fishing, livestock and tourism industries.

With leading professionals including offshore operators, oil and gas exploration companies, pipeline operators, infrastructure and engineering companies, investors and consultants, there is a variety of knowledge and expertise to tap into.

Additionally, Darwin is well positioned to share its insights into indigenous matters. The Menzies School of Health Research is the only Australian health and medical research institute with a primary focus on the health of Indigenous communities and people living in tropical and remote areas.

Specialising in a range of disciplines, including epidemiology, sociology, anthropology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, nutrition and clinical medicine, the Centre is a valuable partner of the Northern Territory Convention Bureau and an important asset to the Territory.

The newly opened Darwin Convention Centre positions the Territory as an exciting and attractive destination for convention delegates. Set on the pristine Darwin harbour, the Centre was constructed specifically to meet the needs of event organisers with capacity, capability and the latest technology.  The Darwin Convention Centre spans a total floor area of 22,900 square metres offering a wide selection of conference, exhibition and function facilities for 10 to 4,000 delegates.

Outside of the thriving city, Darwin’s proximity to Kakadu National Park is a major draw card. For organisers and delegates interested in the environment, this complex ecosystem has been placed on the World Heritage list for its outstanding natural and cultural values and is home to some of the most extensive collections of rock art in the world.

Selecting Darwin as your destination of choice will undoubtedly enhance stronger attendance, add a level of anticipation and excitement to your event and give people a unique taste of northern Australian culture they might not encounter otherwise.

Testimonial

Darwin can now compete favourably with other national and international destinations for the MICE market, with venues capable of handling meetings and events like never before. And, with increased infrastructure developments such as new accommodation properties and the attraction of the Northern Territory as a whole, Darwin is now blossoming into a vibrant alternative for those looking to stage a meeting or event in a new and exciting destination.  I look forward to the opportunity to stage yet more events in Darwin in coming years.
