About Uluru

Uluru is located 440 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This famous sandstone monolith stands 348 metres high and, like an iceberg, has most of its bulk below the surface.

Kata Tjuta, also known as The Olgas, is about 30 kilometres west of Uluru. Kata Tjuta is an Aboriginal name which means ‘many heads’ and refers to the group of more than 30 rounded red domes rising from the desert floor. The tallest is said to be around 546 metres high.

The cultural landscapes of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park resonate with meaning for the Anangu people, the traditional owners. They contain creation stories and the associated knowledge of law, relationships, plants, and animals, all of which live in the shapes and features of the land.

Climate

Uluru has a semi-arid climate. It experiences Australia's four typical seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring. Uluru has hot summer days from December to February and surprisingly cold nights from June to August. Spring and autumn are warm throughout the day and cool at night.
